To support and deliver Dragon Boat Niagara 2015, up to 350+ volunteers will be required for this event.
All interested and qualified individuals are invited to apply for volunteer positions with Dragon Boat Niagara 2015. To be considered for a volunteer position,you must complete the online application (click here to complete application) or visit the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation Community Office located in the Seaway Mall, across from SportChek for assistance in completing your application. Applications will be accepted until each areas needs are met. The volunteer application deadline, to complete and submit your application, is no later than June 12, 2015.
All applicants will be notified of their application status via email within 21 business days of submission. Selection is based on the following criteria: open positions, the individual’s background/experience, and availability. Once approved and assigned to a specific area, a member of the Dragon Boat Niagara 2015 Organizing Committee will contact the volunteer to discuss details of scheduling and volunteer position. Please Note: Completion of the online application does not guarantee a volunteer position at Dragon Boat Niagara 2015. Volunteer applicants may be asked to agree to a security and/or criminal records screening.
Age Requirements and Opportunities
Volunteers must be a minimum of 15 years of age or older at the time of application. Under-age applicants may contact the Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org about applying to volunteer. Exceptions for specific volunteer roles will be made at the discretion of the Organizing Committee. Under-age applicants will be notified of their volunteer status after June 12, 2015.
As part of the Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC) legacy, honourariums are awarded to Canadian community groups / clubs to recognize volunteer contributions. Each individual volunteering is able to select which Canadian community organization / club would benefit from their commitment, allowing for community engagement, and development. Not-for profit groups are encouraged to volunteer as a fundraising method. The honourarium amount is dependent on hour’s worked and specific role of the volunteer. Please allow for one month after the event occurs for volunteer hours to be tabulated and payments processed.
All volunteers will be provided an event specific uniform. This distinctive clothing is to be worn during volunteer working hours. Each individual is to provide his/her own black, grey, brown or navy pants/shorts. Jeans are not permitted during training or competition days, however may be worn during set-up and tear-down.
Volunteer Orientation Session
An orientation session will be hosted by Dragon Boat Niagara 2015 prior to the event for all volunteers. Uniforms and accreditation will be distributed at this function. Each volunteer is required to attend one of the two sessions. The volunteer welcome and orientation session is tentatively scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 5 and Sunday, August 9; time and location to be confirmed.
Volunteer meals will be available at the Venue with snacks and beverages available throughout the day. Lunch will be provided to all volunteers working over a meal period and working a minimum six hour shift.
All purchases/expenses by volunteers must be approved by Dragon Boat Niagara 2015 Management prior to the purchase. Only approved expenses with original receipts will be reimbursed. Unfortunately, Dragon Boat Niagara 2015 is unable to reimburse the expenses for out of town volunteers. This includes accommodations, meals, and mileage.
