Merritt Island is located in the downtown core of the city between the Welland Recreational Waterway and the Welland River. It is home to a beautiful 4.2 km tree-lined path perfect for walking, jogging, hiking, biking, rollerblading, or even picnicking. With a playground for children, a scenic canal trail, and wood carvings by local artist JP Gauthier, Merritt Island is perfect for families, friends and outdoor enthusiasts!
Bike, run, walk, hike, row or paddle! The Waterway offers the perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer. Rentals of canoes, kayaks and paddleboats are available or simply relax shore side. The canal trail borders the calm waterway of the 'Old Canal', providing a scenic display of what used to be a channel for large ships 40 years ago.
Stop in at the year–round (Saturdays) Farmers' Market, operating since 1907 and one of the best in the region offering fresh fruits, vegetables, tasty meats, natural cheeses, local artisans and baked goods.
